  1. >There she was. Sky Butterfly. Standing in the middle of your train wreck of a room, smiling at you like you were a pile of gold.
  2. >”Hello, Anon is it? I don't think we've ever been formally introduced. I'm Star's older sister, Sky. She's told me so much about you!”
  3. Oh! hi-
  4. >Before you could even finish saying hello, Sky runs over to you and grabs your hand, shaking it like a dead fish while you stand there like a bumbling idiot.
  5. >”I've been super excited to get to finally meet you! Star talks about you, like, all the time. Every conversation I’ve had with her lately has been “Anon this” and “Anon that”. She really seems to like you, so knowing her, I’ll probably feel the same!”
  6. >This girl… this is it. This is the one. She looks like Star, but she isn’t. She sounds like Star, but she isn’t. She smells like Star, but...wait that's kinda odd. No, no. She’s Sky Butterfly, a completely different but similar version of Star. She’s like... the Megaman X of sisters, if Megaman X was 18. Wait. Isn’t he technically younger? Bad example.
  7. >Sky lets go of your hand and shifts even closer to you. Normally your proximity with girls who weren’t Star mattered greatly, as it could result in a deadly spaghetti explosion. But seeing Sky up this close in the flesh dispels any notions of resistance in you. She’s just as beautiful as her sister. Actually, the way she wears her outfit almost makes her seem even MORE beautiful. Damn, being around such a pretty girl was distracting. You hardly realized you were in the middle of a possibly awkward silence.
  8. >”Uhhm, so... I'll be around to visit a lot more often now that I've come home from my travels in Mewni...and stuff. I'm 18 years old, I’m sure Star told you that already... and I'm pretty much into the same things Star is... haha in fact people mistakenly call us twins because we look and act so similarly. Yep! We're really totally similar alright. Except I'm four years older than her.”
  9. Oh well, that’s good. Its great to meet you Sky. Uhh.. to be honest, Star didn’t really even tell me you existed until just about a couple hours ago, but...it's a pleasure to meet you nonetheless?
  10. >Good one, that was real smooth, Anon. This is already looking to be a disaster waiting to happen. Maybe you shoul-
  11. >”Hahaha!”
  12. >Huh? Wait, why is she laughing? And wow, she even laughs like Star too.
  13. >”Baahaha! Anon… that’s too typical. Completely typical. That is like, totally us Butterfly sisters. Always waiting till the last minute. It's kind of a family joke at this point. We’re both so terrible with it. I’m glad to hear that my sis hasn’t changed very much in my time away.”
  14. >Phew, at least she seems as agreeable as Star.
  15. Soooo...you both do stuff like that?
  16. >”Wellllll… I’ve had a few more years of experience on my belt so, maybe not as much anymore, at least for me. I try to give people a heads up if I can. Ya know. Maybe give em a ring, a text, maybe toss some pebbles onto their window in the dead of night?”
  17. Hehe, that’s a pretty romantic gesture though don’t you think?? Were you planning on doing that before you popped in here?
  18. >”Nahhh not romantic enough, it's missing me holding a metal boombox cranked up to 11. Hahaha. And yea maybe, are you disappointed?”
  19. Oooh, that sounds like my style. But yea, I am disappointed. I don’t really have a proper window to do that with, so it looks like I’m out of luck.
  20. >”Aww, such a shame, I really wanted to serenade you outside your bedroom window, Anon.”
  21. Hahah. Well, you’ll have to serenade me by phone instead.
  22. >”Wow Anon, did you just meet a girl and ask for her number in the first ten minutes? Star didn’t tell me you were such a sweet talker.”
  23. Hey, you’re the one who already wants to confess your love for me via super cheesey 80s love songs.
  24. >Sky giggled again, and every time she did, it gave you butterflies. She was beyond cute. She seemed to be everything Star was, plus more. There was this air of mystery about her, and you wanted to get to know more about her as soon as you could. And it seemed like you’re already hardcore flirting with each other.
  25. I mean, you don’t have to confess yet if you don’t want to.
  26. >”Nope… not yet at least. Hehe...And darn, I didn’t think to bring my phone. No dice, sweetheart. Next time.”
  27. Wow, you don’t have your phone on you at all times? Are you sure you’re Star’s sister?
  28. >”None other than Sky Butterfly in the flesh, Anon.”
  29. >Hmm… you know, maybe you were wrong. This isn’t going bad at all. You feel a strikingly odd, innate sense of comfort between the two of you. You’re already talking like you’ve known each other for years. The silence between you wasn’t even remotely awkward, in fact, it felt almost natural. Maybe it was just something about the Butterfly family in general. River seemed pretty cool, he also made you feel at home in weird, fatherly sort of way.
  30. >”Wow Anon. Were you doing some remodeling or abstract art or something? You sure do have a lot of stuff thrown around here.”
  31. >Uh oh. Sky finally noticed the state of your room.
  32. Oh! Uhm, no, I was just running a little late. Haahaa…. Uhh. Hope you don’t get the wrong idea. I normally have a much cleaner room.
  33. “Aww, no biggie Anon, don’t worry, I’m not one to judge. Star and I are infamous for having super messy rooms. You fit right in. In fact, I kinda like this scissor you have there, stuck in that drywall? It really ties the room together. Hehehe.”
  34. >Tossing around random shit on your desk was obviously a bad idea. You had to think of something.
  35. Hey I’ve got an idea… why don’t we get out of this cramped room and get some fresh air?
  36. >”Oh, uhh… out...side? You want to go walk around or something? Uhhh...uhhh..sure, Anon. Why don’t we take my scissors so we don’t have to walk up the basement steps or walk through the foyer, hahaahaaaaa.
  37. >ZZZIIPPP!
  38. >The world outside of your central air conditioned room is harsh and inhospitable. You actually can’t even remember the last time you were outside during the harsh California day. Around this time of day you were usually cooped up in your room, playing video games or binging entire seasons of various shows in your underwear. But today was different. You’re actually enjoying it, despite the sweltering heat. You set off with Sky towards the center of town. Nothing seems out of the ordinary, except that Sky seems to be looking everywhere but at you. It's almost as she’s on the lookout for someone. Well, this is quite a culture shock to her. You assume it has something to do with the fact that she’s never been in a city like this one before… though, oddly enough, she hasn’t mentioned anything about it yet.
  39. >”Hey Anon, where are we even headed?”
  40. Meh, I don’t know, just thought it’d be nice to take a walk, I didn’t really have a destination in mind.
  41. >”Leaving it all to chance huh? Sounds like my kind of outing!”
  42. Oh, is it? Are you sure you’re as adventurous as Star? You seemed happier that we stayed inside.
  43. >”ww-what? Of course I am! I’m uhh, even MORE adventurous. I mean, you’d have to if you lived alone in the Mewman countryside, Anon. Duh.”
  44. Ah, I forgot, Star said something about that. How come you live alone again?
  45. >Sky’s entire face changes as her eyes droop down to her feet. You can sense that she’s deep in thought. Shit, maybe that wasn’t the best question to ask her. Good one, dumbass.
  46. >”Sigh, I might as well just tell you, and get it out of the way.”
  47. Tell me what?
  48. >Sky’s eyes remain transfixed on her shoes as she silently ponders the right words to say.
  49. >”Well, as you can tell, I don’t have our family’s cherished heirloom, the magic wand. Normally the oldest female Butterfly gets possession of it when she turns 14. Unless she doesn’t. And if she doesn’t, there’s a reason for that…”
  50. Why’s that?
  51. >”I...broke one of the cardinal rules of succession. A lot of the rules governing our kingdom are a bit… archaic, you could say. There was a bit of shameful history that plagued my family for years. Many decades before my Mother’s war, where Mewni finally united against a common enemy, there was an accord signed by the Queen of the Merfolk and the then standing Butterfly Queen. Years of bloodshed and disputes over land, food, you name it, had come to a head when a Merfolk scout helped capture a Mewman raiding party. “
  52. Wow, that sounds pretty bad. I don’t get it though.
  53. >”Yea well, you will, it gets worse. The leader of the raiding party was captured, caged, and brought to the foot of the Butterfly castle for ransom. It was revealed that the captive was none other than the Queen’s oldest daughter herself. With the threat of another war looming, the Queen did what no other queen before her would do for the safety of her kingdom. She removed the current heir from succession, and was forced to exile her for the brutality she served against citizens of Mewni. It kept the peace, that was for sure.”
  54. Holy shit, so you murdered a mermaid? That’s hardcore as fuck.
  55. >”No no no, I don’t even think I’d even be alive if I did that. I... accidentally lopped off the tail of one of my merfolk friends when we were messing around. We were just kids... We pleaded with our parents to change their minds, she even testified that it was an accident, but the law was very clear. Cutting off a mermaid’s tail is forbidden. It's considered an act of unspeakable violence for the effect it has on their quality of life. There was no distinction for accidents. The law is the law.”
  56. >Sky’s story had you so preoccupied that you didn’t realize you were both standing in the middle of the park. Your eyes scan the area for a park bench, and lo and behold, you’re only about 10 yards away from one. You motion towards the bench as Sky continues her story.
  57. >”Sooo, that's about it. Now you know all about my DEEPEST, DARKEST SECRET! MUAHAHAHAHAH!
  58. >Sky throws her arms up during her maniacal laugh. Her sudden movement and exposition throws you for a loop.
  59. >”Hehehhe! Sorry, looks like I startled you Anon. Don’t worry, I don’t bite…”
  60. >Wow, what a change of mood, once second she’s all somber and reflective, the next she’s animated and giggly. Sky and Star are very alike indeed, but there’s something more to Sky. Maybe it's the trials she had to go through at an early age. She seems kinda used to being an outcast, something you can wholeheartedly identify with.
  61. You know, you’re a pretty funny character, Sky. It's a shame your sister didn’t introduce us sooner.
  62. >”ah-uhh, that’s so sweet of you, Anon. I...umm, kinda wish the same. I had no idea Star was holding out on me all this time.”
  63. >Sky emphasizes that last part with a playful punch on your shoulder. You can only beam at her, she really was a sweet girl, and you hadn’t realized it until now, but you’ve been walking and talking with her for hours.
  64. So, we’ll have to make up for lost time then.
  65. >Your eyes haven’t left hers for even a moment. There was this gentle, heavenly glow around her from the setting sun behind you. You could see the cascade of colors reflected on her face, especially in her pretty blue eyes. It was hard to look away, especially since, for some reason, none of your gaze was tinged by feelings of awkwardness.
  66. >”Yea...we’ll have to, won’t we?”
  67. >Sky’s hand gently creeps ever closer towards yours. So close, that your fingertips are almost touching.
  68. Y-yea...we...uhh...
  69. >Her hand, it was so close to yours. Was she, trying to tell you something? Did she want you to hold it? The idea of that made you sweat bullets. H-holding hands with Sky. Holy hell, why is your heart racing? What the fuck is wrong with you? Why is this so sickeningly lewd, and why is your hand moving of its own volition!?
  70. >”Anon... I had a really fun time today... Maybe we could do this again soon?”
  71. >You look down again. And you’ve gone and done it, there’s your hand, resting atop hers. You look up to her face, and even in the increasingly violet glow of the horizon, you can tell that she’s blushing.
  72. Hey, Sky.
  73. >Well, fuck it, she hasn’t pulled her hand away in fear, might as well go full bore. You give her hand a gentle squeeze as you peer into the enchanting blue pools of her eyes.
  74. It's not over just yet. We’re both adults, we don’t have curfews, the night’s young, right?
  75. >Sky didn’t say a word as she suddenly pulled her hand out from yours. You almost missed the sensation of it, that is, until you feel the underside of her hand in your palm. It was warm, and it felt delightfully soft and velvety. You find yourself lost in her eyes as she delicately slips her fingers through yours. It sends shivers down your spine. She flashes you a very blushed and cheeky smile. It was all the confirmation you needed.
