  1. Lost in Translation - Chapter 5
  2. Written by: Wuten
  3.
  4. Ponies POV
  5. >”…And you’ve just GOTTA meet Gummy! He’s an alligator, but he never had any teeth grow in, so they’re just gums, and…” Pinkie continues on relentlessly, talking to the strange new creature that she’d named ‘Anonymous’ earlier.
  6. >”Come on, Pinkie; I don’t think he understands what you’re saying,” Twilight chuckles to herself, as the group exits the Everfree Forest. “Besides, I’m sure that—”
  7. >”But what if he DOES understand us, Twilight? What if he just can’t communicate that he understands what we’re saying and so we don’t know that he understands what we’re trying to communicate to—”
  8. >”Whoa, now,” Applejack silences Pinkie with a hoof, “Yer gettin’ too worked up over this. Ah’m sure he’ll be just fine just as soon as he gets used to bein’ around us ponies, that’s all.”
  9. >Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash and Rarity just continue eyeballing the strange creature, much to its discomfort.
  10.
  11. Anon POV
  12. >FREEDOM AT LA—Wait, why is there a giant floating city in the sky?
  13. >And why is everything suddenly a lot more colorful? You thought these ponies were leading you out of the forest!
  14. >THEY LIED TO YOU…
  15. >Or did they? You don’t know, you can’t even understand them to begin with. You only just now thought to use a picture to show them you wanted to go back home.
  16. >What’s that in the distance? A town?
  17. >…A pony town?
  18. “How the hell?”
  19. >You scratch your head in disbelief. What is with this place?
  20. >You kneel down, running your hand through the grass. Despite the fact that there aren’t any humans for miles, the grass feels… soft, like it’s freshly cut.
  21. >Standing back up, you pinch yourself on the shoulder. This HAS to just be a dream. It just has to be. Or a hallucination, or the heat finally getting to you, or—
  22. >You collapse back onto one knee, a bit dizzy from all of this. All of the ponies gather around you.
  23.
  24. Ponies POV
  25. >"Whoa now, easy there," Applejack places a hoof on his shoulder. "I bet he's still pretty hungry, seein' as he's bigger than two of us put together," she chuckles a bit nervously. “Or tired. It’s gettin’ to be pretty late in the day, after all…”
  26. >"Oh, he'll be just fine!" Pinkie grins. "Once we bring him to Ponyville, we'll introduce him to everypony, and then have a huge party, and then he'll feel welcome for su—”
  27. >"Um, let's just take this one step at a time, Pinkie," Rainbow pauses her with a hoof. "First things first, we need to make sure it's still not dangerous..."
  28. >While the two converse, the creature gets his bearings...
  29.
  30. Anon POV
  31. >Okay. So a world of ponies. Colorful ponies. Apparently, sentient colorful ponies capable of building towns, using some sort of levitation technology, and flying.
  32. >This is way too weird. You ain't in Kansas anymore, bud.
  33. >You rub your head a bit, before following the ponies into the town. By the time you do, however, the sun is already beginninf to set. Looking around, it's very much like those rural towns back home; even has a farm up on a nearby hill.
  34. >And in the distance, you see a massive city built into the cliffside.
  35. >We Lord of the Rings now? You'd hate to find out what Mordor looks like in this place...
  36. >The pink one is tugging on your hand now; looks like you spent too much time sight-seeing, you nearly lost the group.
  37. >She leads you up to what can only be described as a building decorated with frosting, or something to that effect.
  38.
  39. Ponies POV
  40. >"Are you sure Mr. and Mrs. Cake will approve, Pinkie?" Rarity asks, turning to look up at Anonymous. "Did you think this through?"
  41. >"Oh Twi, don't you worry! He'll be just fine, just watch! I'm great with pets!" she grins, leading him up the steps.
  42. >Rarity hesitates for a moment, before replying. “Alright, Pinkie; I suppose we’ll leave him in your capable hooves!” she exclaims, smiling. “Just be careful, we don’t quite know about him…”
  43. >”Mmmmhm! And you guys can come visit us anytime!”
  44. >”Well, I was wondering where he came from… maybe we can figure out how to communicate somehow?” Twilight ponders for a moment, before smiling. “I’ll come by tomorrow with some things to take notes with. We’ll fix this communication barrier one way or another!” she cheers, before trotting off, a few of the girls following suit.
  45. >”Goodbye, girls!” Pinkie shouts, waving a hoof goodbye. “Alright, Nonny, let’s get you inside! You must be starving!” Pinkie grins up at the creature, who just stares down at her. She trots happily into the bakery, beckoning to him with a hoof.
  46.
  47. Anon POV
  48. >This place looks pretty good. Almost good enough to eat.
  49. >Almost.
  50. >You follow the pony inside, ducking your head under the archway of the door before closing it behind you. It felt strangely light somehow…
  51. >Must be because they don’t have hands to close it with.
  52. >Looking around the interior of the room, you’re inside a bakery of some kind. Cakes, muffins, cupcakes, you name it, your eyes pass by at least one on their trip around the room.
  53. >If the first one you tried didn’t taste like complete horseshit—nevermind the pun—there wouldn’t be much left of the bakery when you were through with it.
  54. >The pink pony trots around happily, making a few sounds up the stairs, and some whinnying responds back to her. Must be a whole family living in the bakery.
  55. >Two more ponies come up to the rafters, looking down at her first, then to you with widened eyes. You give them a hesitant wave, before returning to admiring the confections you want to enjoy, but cannot for fear of the taste…
  56. “Fuck, I’m hungry…”
  57. >They make a few sounds to each other, before the pink one, quite literally, bounces like a ball over to you and raises herself up on all fours, placing her front hooves just above your stomach.
  58. >She taps her left hoof on your chest twice, before hopping down and trotting over to the other two ponies. She makes a few more sounds to them, and they approach you.
  59. >Judging from their… “outfits”? You’re not entirely sure what you should call them, but you assume that these two are the owners of the bakery.
  60. >You smile, slowly lifting an outstretched hand out towards them. Maybe they’ll understand this?
  61. >They stare at it for a long while, before the stallion reaches up with his hoof towards your hand.
  62. >When it gets there, you grip it slowly, noticing that it was a lot softer than a normal horse’s hoof, but still a bit sturdier than the body of that pink one.
  63. >The two of you nod at each other, smiling.
  64. “Nice to meet you.”
  65. >You know he doesn’t quite understand what you’re saying, but he probably has a good idea.
  66. >Cool. There are actually guys here. Makes sense, but up until this point you hadn’t actually seen another male in this place.
  67. >The pink one waves at you, beckoning you to follow her.
  68. >You give the two ponies a quick nod, before following her up the stairs.
  69. “Wonder where she’s leading me…”
  70. >She bounces a few times at the top of the stairs, before galloping over to one of the doors. You follow suit, opening the door for her.
  71. >She gives you a smile, before trotting inside with you following behind.
  72. >Inside, it looks like a toddler’s room; small toys with chewing marks on them, and on the far wall there’s a crib, complete with a mobile with little horses and stars on it.
  73. >You walk up to it, and inside you see two baby foals sleeping soundly. One’s got a short, brown mane, and the other has an orange one.
  74. >Strangest of all, though, was that one had wings, and the other had a horn… how did that work?
  75. >Maybe they have some kind of adoption thing going on with these ponies. Ah well.
  76. >You smile, turning to the pink one and nodding, the two of you quietly slipping out of the room to not wake them.
  77. >As you close the door behind the two of you quietly, you turn and follow the pink one to another room.
  78. >This one seems a bit plainer than the previous room, and aside from a bed, a nightstand and a dresser, it’s pretty empty. She points at the bed, making a few sounds before trotting over and tapping on it, smiling at you.
  79. >You let out a long yawn, stretching your arms. You’ve had a long week, and you haven’t had a good night’s sleep since first going to the forest…
  80. >Maybe if you just laid down for a little while, you’ll feel better…
  81. >You walk over to the bed, looking down at it. It’s a bit small, but only if you lay flat would your feet hang over the edge.
  82. >You fall over onto it, letting out a relaxed sigh into the covers and running your hands along the fabric. So soft… so warm… so much better than leaves and twigs…
  83. “Goodnight moon…”
  84. >And… you’re out like a light. Didn’t even need the pillow.
  85.
  86. Pinkie POV
  87. >”Wow, he must’ve really been tired,” Pinkie giggles, watching the sleeping giant on the bed. “It’s a good thing we have an extra room, otherwise I don’t know what we would have done!” she says to herself, trotting over and closing the window and curtains, shutting out what little light was remaining from the sunset.
  88. >She turns and smiles at him, nodding proudly. Yes! She was going to be the best pet-sitter ever!
  89. >At least until Twilight was able to figure out how to talk with the big guy. She couldn’t wait for that!
  90. >Bouncing happily to the door, she closes it quietly and lets out a sigh of relief as the door clicks shut. “Whew… I sure am glad that’s over,” she grins, bouncing down the stairs. “I’ll have to come up with something spectacular for breakfast tomorrow!”
