  1. >You scan the horizon from the inside of the cramped passenger train car.
  2. >Twilight sits quietly, reviewing the bible that you passed to her.
  3. >A part of you wonders to yourself if she sees it as a history book or a piece of fiction.
  4. >You've got to start spreading the word somewhere... and she seems bright enough to see the lies that Celestia is perpetuating.
  5. >Now that you are on the run though, what is your next step?
  6. >When this train stops, you will be in Ponyville.
  7. >Stuck.
  8. >With no real way of going back home... that you know of.
  9. >All you can do is pray every day for your swift and safe arrival back to Earth.
  10. >In the meantime, you can spread the word of God.
  11. >Yeah.
  12. >That sounds good.
  13. >Yet, how are you going to take the word and adapt it to what they think, feel and believe.
  14. >Rubbing your forehead, you notice the tiny town approaching off in the distance.
  15. >Perhaps, the best thing to do first is to learn more about them.
  16. >Figure out what makes them tick.
  17. >If you can do that... maybe you can put it in terms they understand.
  18. >Was this what it was like for the missionaries of old?
  19. >Who would travel to far away lands to pass along the teachings of Christ?
  20. >Hmm... not likely.
  21. >They were usually met with hostility... as well as attempts to break their faith.
  22. >Actually.
  23. >Never mind.
  24. >This is exactly the same.
  25. >You sigh to yourself, realizing the predicament you are in.
  26. >On the run from the law.
  27. >Enemy of the ruler of Equestria, who sees herself as a goddess.
  28. >With no real way to escape or get back home.
  29. >What are you going to do, Father?
  30.
  31. >The train gently slows to a stop and Twilight closes the book.
  32. >"It's so... interesting to read all of the areas they talk about horses in this book."
  33. >Your attention snaps to Twilight, bringing you out of your reverie.
  34. "Really? I suppose the differences are quite staggering."
  35. >"Uh, yeah! They don't even talk for one, and the saddles! Sheesh! Some things should just stay in the bedroom."
  36. >You decide not to press on that one too hard.
  37. >There are some things you would simply rather not know.
  38. >"There is a lot of weird things in this book, Father."
  39. "Yeah... that's what a lot of people say. I suppose ponies wouldn't be much different."
  40. >With a big stretch, you rise to your feet, which still results in you slightly crouching, so you don't hit your head on the doorway.
  41. >Walking with Twilight out of the train car, you find yourself in a state of constant wariness.
  42. >Could the guards this far out have been told already?
  43. >If they see you now, will everything be blown?
  44. >You can't take that risk.
  45. >"Father, up ahead," Twilight whispers.
  46. >Snapping to your 12 o' clock, you see two guards, clearly scanning the crowd.
  47. >They had to have been informed.
  48. >How can they communicate that fast?
  49. >The same sort of dragon power that you saw earlier when Twilight sent her message?
  50. >That's a thought for later.
  51. >Now, you need to avoid those guards.
  52. >You can't leave this train...
  53. "Twilight, I have an idea."
  54. >The purple pony turns to you with questioning eyes.
  55. "Just go. I'll catch up," You assure her. "Back at the library."
  56. >She nods then steps out of the train car, leaving you as it's only passenger.
  57. >Watching the guards, you see that they focus onto Twilight and head directly for the train car she stepped out of.
  58. >Perfect.
  59. >Heading to the opposite side of the car, the side not facing the landing, you open a window wide and leap out.
  60. >Landing on the loose gravel of the railroad, you sprint as hard as you can to the front of the train.
  61. >Looking over your shoulder you try to time it right.
  62. >It's only a matter of time till they look out the window, but if you cut into the landing too soon they could spot you as well.
  63. >Just a few seconds.
  64. >Three.
  65. >Two.
  66. >One.
  67. >You take a deep breath.
  68. >Here goes nothing.
  69. >Quickly, you veer off.
  70. >Jumping between two train cars, you hop onto the landing and power walk to Twilight, who is walking away from the train station.
  71. >Ponies look at you oddly as you pass through the crowd.
  72. >Well, even more odd than you being the only human in Equestria.
  73. >With a flurry of 'Excuse me' and 'Pardon Me' you make it to the side of the train station when you hear the whistle blow.
  74. >Your eyes glance over a bulletin board, filled with various papers and town announcements.
  75. >With a gasp, you jump to the board and examine a sign that has caught your attention.
  76. >Simply, because it has your face on it.
  77. >"Wanted - Human Beast-"
  78. >Before you can read more, you rip it off the bulletin board and shove it in your pocket.
  79. >Focus on your main objective Anon.
  80. >Get to the Library.
  81. >Your footsteps push you forward, one after the other to Golden Oaks, sweat beginning to form on your brow.
  82. >Scanning the horizon for guards, you find your pace becoming faster and faster.
  83. >Checking behind you, you wonder if any of the ponies have already informed a guard or two.
  84. >This is bad.
  85. >You can't even walk in public anymore.
  86. >It's only a matter of time until something goes wrong.
  87. >Just a couple dozen more yards.
  88. >You see Twilight off in the distance, fumbling with the keys to her Treebrary.
  89. >Quickening your pace, you check over your shoulder.
  90. >It doesn't look like there is anyone behind you.
  91. >Erm.
  92. >Anypony.
  93. >Your attention returns in front of you, when you see Twilight step inside her home.
  94. >What would they do if they caught you?
  95. >Banish you?
  96. >Torture you?
  97. >Who knows what this ruler would do to you after the display you made at her royal dinner?
  98. >Your quick pace turns into a jog.
  99. >You can't afford to find out.
  100. >There has to be some way to get home.
  101. >There has to be some greater plan to all of this.
  102. >"Hey!"
  103. >A cold shiver runs down your body.
  104. >On instinct, you sprint as fast as you can inside Twilight's home.
  105. >Gasping for breath, you slam the door behind you.
  106. >"Father? What happened? Why are you-"
  107. "Shhh!" You shush her.
  108. >Quickly, you creep over to the window and peek out.
  109. >Two mares talk to each other enthusiastically and wave at a few others.
  110. >No pursuers.
  111. >You let out a relieving sigh and slide down the wall to the wooden floor of the Library.
  112. "Thank goodness."
  113. >"Now will you tell me?"
  114. "I thought I was being chased. I guess I was just being paranoid."
  115. >Twilight nods and pulls the curtains.
  116. >"For good reason too! After what you pulled at the castle, you are lucky I'm helping you at all!" Twilight mentions.
  117. >You simply nod and rub the back of your neck.
  118. >"I'm going to see if we can have Applejack take you to the farm for awhile. She should be able to hide you in their barn for awhile."
  119. >A barn?
  120. >You are surprised it wouldn't be a stable.
  121. >Then again, you better not say anything.
  122. >If you assume anything about your world is the same in horseworld, you tend to get in trouble.
  123. >Wait.
  124. >Equestria
  125. >You really got to get used to this.
  126. >After Twilight closes all the curtains, you rise to your feet and look around.
  127. "Well... now what?"
  128. >Twilight looks at you quizzically.
  129. >"Now what... what?"
  130. "Now what do I do? I'm on the run from your teacher... You know her better than I do... What do I have to do?"
  131. >Twilight listens carefully and paces back and forth.
  132. >"I don't know... I imagine she has the royal guard searching all over for you... I wouldn't know without asking my brother."
  133. >Her bother?
  134. >Oh, right. The guard we saw yesterday.
  135. "Can we trust him?" You ask bluntly.
  136. >Twilight looks at you with unsure eyes.
  137. >"Maybe... I'm not sure."
  138. "We probably shouldn't take that chance."
  139. >"I agree."
  140. >You pace back and forth, trying to brainstorm with Twilight.
  141. "So our only option is to... wait it out?"
  142. >"I guess so, until we can think of something better."
  143. "Right," You agree.
  144. >"I'll have Spike get a letter to Applejack as soon as possible, until then, you should get some rest Anon. I'll wake you up once Applejack gets here."
  145. >You look at her and nod.
  146. "Where should I sleep?"
  147. >"There is a spare room in the basement. You are welcome to to stay there for now."
  148. >With a smile and a nod, you head to the basement door.
  149. >Yet, you stop and turn around.
  150. "Twilight?"
  151. >She turns to you, her expression racked with internal debate.
  152. >"Yes, Father?"
  153. "Thank you, and God bless you."
  154. >She nods in reply and you make your way downstairs.
  155. >You should consider yourself lucky that Twilight is sticking her neck out for you.
  156. >Descending the stairs into the cold laboratory, you locate the spare bedroom and step inside.
  157. >It's not much, clearly just a small room Twilight made so she could rest in-between experiment steps.
  158. >Instead of instantly untucking your shirt and getting more comfortable, you turn on a light and close the door gently behind you.
  159. >Approaching the bed, you gently get to your knees and fold your hands on the bed.
  160. >Resting your forehead on your fingers, you sit in the serene silence of your room.
  161. >With a few deep breaths, you try to relax.
  162. "Lord, I know there must be some greater reason for me being here..."
  163. >You moisten your lips and search for the right words to say.
  164. "Give me the strength to carry out your will."
  165. >Closing your eyes, you pray, hoping that some answer to all of this will come to you.
  166. >Silence greets your ears and the room simply feels cold.
  167. >Rising to your feet, you lay down on the small bed, which is noticeably more uncomfortable from the royal mattress you enjoyed at the castle.
  168. >Beggars can't be choosers, you suppose.
  169. >Your head resting on the slightly hard pillow, you close your eyes gently.
  170. >At least you can trust Twilight to protect you.
  171. >As your muscles relax and your mind begins to unravel, a thought pops into your head.
  172. >You are being protected by Celestia's most faithful pupil.
  173. >Whose teacher is trying to have you arrested.
  174. >You shoot up in bed, the sudden realization taking hold of you.
  175. >What if this is all some trap?
  176. >Searching to find some sort of explanation, you rub your forehead.
  177. >If it were a trap, why wouldn't they just trap you at the castle.
  178. >How do you know you can trust a pony that is so close to the Princess?
  179. >Your mind draws a blank.
  180. >She hasn't given you a reason -not- to trust her.
  181. >That's not really the same thing, Anon.
  182. >Sitting up from your bed, you place your hand on the doorknob.
  183. >Gently, you open it and return to the bottom of the stairwell.
  184. >Curiosity eating at you, you gently ascend the stairs.
  185. >Perhaps... if you do a little spying, you can figure out if you can trust her.
  186. >Ascending half way, you stop.
  187. >You look back down at the stairs, wondering if what you are doing is the right thing to do.
  188. >Twilight is a nice pony.
  189. >She hasn't given you a reason not to trust her.
  190. >Shouldn't you love thy neighbor as if they were thyself?
  191. >You look back up the stairs at the closed door.
  192. >Placing your hand on the rail, you stand for a moment, pondering your next move.
  193. >Then, after a tense moment and against your gut feeling, you turn around and head back downstairs.
  194. >You'll be fine.
  195. >Just trust in Twilight.
  196. >And above all, trust in Him.
  197.
  198. "Spike, take a letter." You call for your personal assistant.
  199. >"Coming!" The baby dragon calls, scurrying into your bedroom with parchment and quill in hand.
  200. >What in the world are you doing to do?
  201. >How can you handle this in a way that makes sense.
  202. "Have you sent the letter to Applejack?" You ask.
  203. >"Yeah, and nopony saw me. Just like you asked, but why all of the secrecy Twi? It isn't like you."
  204. "Just trust me Spike. I need to write my friendship letter to Princess Celestia. Tell me when you are ready."
  205. >You sigh to yourself and search your mind for the right words.
  206. >Spike dips his quill into some ink and returns his gaze to you.
  207. >"Ready."
  208. "Dear Princess Celestia,"
  209. >The dragon writes quickly to keep up with you.
  210. "Today I learned a very difficult lesson in friendship. Sometimes somepony who seems to be nice and a good friend, may not be the same person the next day. Why somepony would do that... I don't know, but this is a valuable lesson I am sure not to forget. My sincerest apologies for the behaviors of my guest last evening."
  211. >Spike dots the final period.
  212. "Your faithful student, Twilight Sparkle."
  213. >He finishes the final notes and reads it back aloud to you.
  214. "Perfect, send it off to the Princess. In the mean time, I have to go talk to some ponies while Father Anon sleeps downstairs. I'll be back later."
  215. >Leaving your bedroom, you head back downstairs and glance at the bedroom door.
  216. >You sure hope this is the right thing to do...
