Organic Chem - Identifying stuff the FAST way.

First off, smell it.
Fishy/ammonia/eye watering smell - an amine, probably methylamine
Paint thinner/Nail varnish remover - ketone
Fruity/sweet - a nice ester?

If its a solid its probably an aldehyde.
If solid, burn some. Smokey = aromatic, non smokey = aliphatic.

PROTIP IF LIQUID: Do the dinitrophenol test FIRST. Tells you if its aldehyde/ketone OR alcohol/ester OR some other shit.

Another tip - dont do 10 confirmatory tests. If its something its something. Just roll with it.

Srsly. Smell the stuff then give it some DNP then do a confirmatory, saves loads of time
